Sustainable loungewear - what do we do to achieve it?

At Berlin Fashion Week, I was asked, “What does ‘sustainable’ actually mean? What are you doing about it?”

Since the word “SUSTAINABLE” is now overused, I’d like to explain to you in detail exactly what we’re doing to ensure the sustainability of our loungewear collection.

Sustainability in the Production of Our Loungewear

• Use only natural fibers, such as mulesing-free merino wool—these fibers eventually decompose, unlike polyester and polyacrylic, which (like PET bottles) never decompose and even release microplastics into our water with every wash cycle! Most natural fibers are also renewable resources.

• We use only Italian yarn for our sustainable loungewear. That’s because Europe has strict regulations governing the dyeing of yarn. In other low-wage countries, the yarn may be much cheaper, but environmental laws there are lax, and dye baths are often simply dumped into rivers. 

• Manufacturing in the EU—short transport distances and no shipping halfway around the world, which allows us to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. In addition, factory waste in Europe is properly disposed of and recycled.

• Do not use plastic bags or poly bags. Each garment produced is typically wrapped individually in plastic at the factories. We find this completely unnecessary; at our facility, the merchandise is simply stacked unpackaged in cardboard boxes.

 Sustainability in the Shipping of Our Loungewear

• The tissue paper we use to ship our online lounge wear orders comes from sustainably managed forests 
• Our boxes are made in Germany from recycled paper.

Conclusion: Don't be afraid to ask companies about their actions! I'm glad when people ask—because I, too, have given this topic a lot of thought in order to run a company that's as sustainable as possible.

Many companies claim they operate sustainably, but when you ask for details, there’s nothing to back it up (that’s greenwashing)!
